Why it's in the guide

Formerly The Sands End, rebranded in 2023 under the Butcombe group, and one of the best reasons to wander into the residential backstreets of Sands End. The British cooking is excellent — seasonal, unshowy, done properly — with a thoughtful wine list and a good range of ale alongside. The courtyard garden earns its keep in summer, Saturday brunch is a fixture, and the Sunday roast is taken seriously. The kind of quiet-corner local every neighbourhood believes it has and mostly doesn't.

The upstairs private room is free to book — quietly useful for birthdays. Saturday brunch is the calm window.
